There are  different  type of  information system. the general these type are distiguished  from each other on the basic of what the system  dose or by the technology used to different types of information system.

a)Transaction processing system(TPS)

b)management information system(MIS)

c)decision support system(DSS)

d)Expert system(ES)

a) Transaction processing system:

                                                    TPS automates the handling of data about business activities or transaction which a be though as simple discrete event in the organization.Data about each transaction are captured transaction are verified and accepted or rejected and validate transaction  are store for later use. report may be produced immediately to provides standard transaction summaries.

            example employee record and hotel system etc

b)Management information system (MIS):

                                                                  These are the information system at are management level of organization and serve the management level function like planning,controlling, and decision marking. MIS relatively  raw data available through Tps and convert them into meaning form that manager needed to MIS use need a good  understanding of what  kind of information manager required and how manger use information in their. example salary analysis and sales  reporting etc.

c) Decision Support system (DSS):
                                                    DSS  are designed to help  organizational decision  marker to make a decision  Instead  of providing  the  summaries  of data as in MIS , a DSS provide an  intractive  environment in which decision maker can quickely  manipulate data and model of business operation.
A decision  support system is composed to database , Mathematical or graphical model of business process and user interface that  provide the way decision maker to communication with DSS. these system serve at the strategic level or decision making level of organization.


  d) Expert system (ES):
                                      It is an  extension of  DSS that are developed to solve  complex problem in particular domain at the level of extra ordinary human intelligence. Expert system are implemented with artificial intelligence technology that  capture store and provide access to the reasoning  of expert. The application of expert system are medical diagram, chemical analysis genetics etc.
